Kids Yoga & Senior Chair Yoga in Mansarovar
Two completely different classes on one page, because they are usually booked by the same family. One is loud and playful. The other is slow, seated and knee-friendly.
Who is each of these classes for?
Kids yoga is for children roughly between seven and fourteen — old enough to follow a sequence, young enough that the class has to be fun or they will not come back. Senior yoga is for students over sixty, and for anyone of any age who cannot get down to the floor comfortably.
They are taught separately, at different times, with different sequences and a different voice. The tabs below cover each one properly. Ritika teaches both herself.
Kids Yoga, ages 7–14
Forty-five minutes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings that look, from the doorway, like organised chaos. Children learn postures through names and stories — tree, cobra, lion, mountain — and along the way pick up balance, breath control and the ability to hold still for two minutes, which for most of them is the hardest posture in the room.
Who it suits
- Children who fidget through homework and lose the thread halfway
- Children carrying a heavy school bag with visibly rounded shoulders
- Children on screens for hours — gaming, tuition, video, repeat
- Anxious children in the run-up to exams
- Children who do not enjoy competitive sport and have no other physical activity
What a kids session looks like
- 0–8 min: warm-up games and joint loosening
- 8–25 min: animal and nature postures, named and demonstrated
- 25–35 min: balance work — tree, eagle, and standing on one leg for a count
- 35–40 min: simple breathing: bhramari humming, and slow counting breaths
- 40–45 min: lying still in shavasana with a short story
The Tuesday and Thursday sessions shift towards breathing and relaxation from January onwards, because that is when children in Jaipur need the calmer half of yoga more than the physical half. Parents are welcome to say what their child is dealing with; nothing is announced to the group.
Senior & Chair Yoga
Senior students practise inside the 5:00 PM hatha batch, Monday to Saturday, with a chair-supported version of the sequence. Nothing requires kneeling, deep squatting or getting up and down from the floor repeatedly. If the floor is out of the question entirely, the whole session can be done seated.
Who it suits
- Students over sixty who want daily movement without a gym
- Anyone managing knee discomfort or arthritis
- Anyone managing blood pressure or blood sugar alongside their doctor's treatment
- People who have become unsteady on their feet and want to work on balance
- Anyone who was told “stay active” and has no idea where to start
What a senior session looks like
- 0–12 min: seated joint mobility — ankles, knees, hips, wrists, shoulders, neck
- 12–25 min: standing postures with a chair held for support
- 25–35 min: seated spinal movement: gentle twists, side bends, cat-cow in a chair
- 35–45 min: balance practice beside a wall, and leg strengthening for the knees
- 45–60 min: slow anulom vilom without retention, then guided relaxation
Talk to your doctor, and tell Ritika what they said. Inversions, breath retention and kapalbhati are generally left out where blood pressure is uncontrolled, and deep knee bends are left out where knees are painful. Yoga supports mobility and may help you manage day-to-day stiffness — it is complementary to your medical treatment, never a replacement for it. Keep taking what your doctor has prescribed.
What families notice
Benefits reported from both batches
Reported by students and parents over months of steady attendance. Yoga supports general wellbeing and is complementary to medical care — it does not replace your doctor's advice.
Children settle faster
The change parents mention most: homework starts sooner on class days, with less negotiation.
Straighter young backs
Backbends and shoulder work counteract heavy bags and hours hunched over a phone.
A calmer exam season
Children who already know bhramari have something to use at 11 PM the night before a paper.
Easier joints in the morning
Daily mobility work is why senior students say the first ten minutes of the day stop being a struggle.
Steadier balance
Unglamorous, and the single most useful thing in the class for anyone past sixty.
Somewhere to be at 5 PM
Several senior students say the routine and the company matter as much as the postures.

Questions
Kids & senior yoga FAQs
What age can a child start yoga?
The kids batch takes children from about seven years old, when most can follow a sequence and hold a posture for a few breaths. Below that, yoga works better as play at home than as a class. The upper end of the batch is around fourteen, after which teenagers usually move into the regular hatha batch.
Will yoga help my child concentrate better in studies?
Parents most often report that children settle faster into homework and sleep better on class days. Balance postures and short breathing practices ask for sustained attention, which is the skill being trained. It is a support, not a substitute for anything a teacher or doctor has advised.
Is yoga safe for a senior with knee pain?
The senior sessions are built for exactly this. Nothing requires kneeling or deep squatting, standing work is done holding a chair, and most of the practice can be done seated. Please check with your doctor first and tell Ritika which knee and what your doctor said, so she can adjust the sequence. See also yoga for knee pain and arthritis.
Can I do yoga in a chair if I cannot get down to the floor?
Yes. A complete session — joint mobility, spinal movement, breathing and relaxation — can be done from a sturdy chair without ever going to the floor. Several senior students at Karma Yoga practise this way permanently, and others use the chair only for the standing part.
I have high blood pressure. Which practices should I avoid?
Inversions, breath retention and kapalbhati are generally not advised with uncontrolled high blood pressure, and neither are long holds where you strain. Slow anulom vilom without retention, seated movement and guided relaxation are usually suitable. Ask your doctor, keep taking prescribed medication, and tell Ritika before your first session. Read yoga for diabetes and blood pressure for more.
Do the kids and senior batches run at the same time?
No, they are entirely separate. Kids yoga runs on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 PM. Senior and chair-supported practice runs inside the 5:00 PM hatha batch Monday to Saturday, and one-to-one at home for students who cannot travel.
